Blanca Isabel De Lima Urdaneta Resumen Se presenta la historia empresarial de Quiterio Henríquez Gómez, comerciante coriano, primera generación de descendientes de holandeses antillanos nacida en Venezuela, activo desde comienzos del guzmancismo hasta su muerte, en 1919. Quiterio formó parte de un grupo de empresarios que no provenía del grupo holandés sefardita. Fue uno de los más importantes exportadores de café y pieles de chivo de la región coriana, sin por ello dejar de lado cualquier producto que demandara el comercio internacional. Con destacada actuación como exportador-importador, industrial en la destilación de aguardientes y dueño de tienda al detal; hizo, además, destacada carrera como funcionario público. Su estrategia rompió la separación tradicional que había entre el comerciante y el entorno rural, pues Quiterio avanzó hacia la serranía falconiana y fue inversor en propiedades rurales agropecuarias, cuya producción ingresó al mercado local y de exportación hacia las Antillas Holandesas. Siendo un comerciante de modesto origen, ajeno a las redes comerciales sefarditas y por tanto sin apoyo del grupo judío de Curaçao; logró posicionarse en el alto comercio, acceder al sector industrial y financiero, convertirse en un importante propietario urbano y rural y posicionarse entre la elite social de Coro. ABSTRACT This paper develops the business history of Quiterio Henríquez Gómez, a merchant of Coro, Venezuela, the first generation of descendants of Dutch Antilleans born in Venezuela, active from the beginning of Guzmancism until his death in 1919. Quiterio was part of a group of businessmen who did not come from the Dutch Sephardic group. He was one of the most important exporters of coffee and goat skins in the Coro´s region of influence, without neglecting any product that international trade demanded. With outstanding performance as an exporter-importer, industrialist in the distillation of spirits and owner of a retail store; he also had an outstanding career as a public official. His strategy broke the traditional separation between the merchant and the rural environment, as Quiterio advanced towards the Falcón´s mountain range and was an investor in rural agricultural properties, whose production entered the local and export markets to the Dutch Antilles. Being a merchant of modest origin, alien to the Sephardic commercial networks and therefore without support from the Jewish group of Curaçao; he managed to position himself in high commerce, access the industrial and financial sector, become an important urban and rural property owner and position himself among the social elite of Coro.
